Three months of exploration, wandering, discoveries. From September 11 to December 12, 2004, I scoured the American territory upon a journey that led me through roads scattered in 29 different states, for a total of some 17 400 miles  (28 000 km). The places I went to — some according to plans, others fortuitously — took the shape of major cities, small and remote settlements, natural sites, engineering works and structures, notorious architectural achievements or land art pieces. My traveling also revealed to me everything located in between those points of interest: minor roads, farmlands, deserts.
