SYNOPSIS
When one feels bad, there’s something disgusting in the blue of the sky,
in the happiness of others...
STATEMENT
The Blue of the Sky is an actor-less film, entirely shot from within the Brussels apartment I inhabited at the time of its making; actor-less, though not character-less, every shot espousing the point of view of the narrator. It expresses the bitterness and malaise of someone who feels outcasted, who can only glimpse from a claustrophobic edge at a presumed serenity he himself is unable to concretely experience. A study in minimalism, the project explored processes that were to resurface in subsequent works: despite the short length of the piece, shots were gathered over a relatively long period, whenever the right circumstances were met. Editing became a deliberate attempt to use as little components as possible, seeking expressivity and relevance in the careful ordering of images, voice-over, foley and music.
