SYNOPSIS
A grieving man undertakes a decisive journey, seeking relief from an unbearable feeling
of estrangement. His plan meticulously unfolds into a wearisome ritual, as a tribute to
an extinct reality.
STATEMENT
The Burial is centered on the sense of powerlessness that arises from having to let go of one’s inmost, dearest beliefs, dreams and values. Having realized and accepted that there is nothing left to pursue, the protagonist, armed with courage and resignation, goes through the motions of a dignified ceremonial. He heads towards a remote locale, because his suffering cannot be understood, nor shared; he deploys great physical exertion, because he is willing and able to forget himself in the process of grief. Confronted with an inescapable feeling of alienation, an unmet need for solace and with the evidence of time’s irreversibility, he embraces fatality and surrenders to nature, in an ultimate gesture of truthfulness.
