SYNOPSIS
Helen is packing the contents of her flat. She does so elegantly, meticulously, smuggling her private sense of beauty into the labor. She has managed to tame her solitude, but her belongings provoke recollections, reminders of an unintended past, which give the twilight of her life a particular hue.
STATEMENT
Helen at Dusk is born through the decision to revisit existing material (captured during the shooting of A Woman Torn in Half, 2018—2019), in order to forge a new, different project. More than two years after the original filming, now free from production requirements and building on sensitivities and aptitudes developed and applied in my most recent works — closely linked to poetry and video art — I could entirely devote myself to the assemblage of the rich components initially gathered, in search, through a new editing approach, of the rightest, most mature form, the one best honoring the essence of the depicted situation and the remarkable performance bringing it to life; working on the very nature and possibilities of the medium thus plays a key part in this new interpretation.
