SYNOPSIS
Lola is still trapped in the tiny village where she grew up and then raised alone her only child. When a tragic accident occurs, a figure from her past, André, suddenly reappears. While Lola strives to define a new life for herself, André seeks the forgiveness he needs to achieve peace of mind. This new encounter will forever change the course of both of their lives. Perdóname, Lola is a neo-western tale of loss, guilt, resentment and impossible love.
STATEMENT
Perdóname, Lola opposes two characters who, despite their common, desperate longing for human touch, are divided by stronger, fundamental, incompatible contrasts: the impetus to move towards a new, open future vs. the need to amend mistakes and regrets belonging to the past; and a yearning for the possibility to expose one’s vulnerability and naked self vs. the indulgence in a reassuring comfort or undisturbed tranquility. Formally, two aspects predominantly impacted the film’s look and feel. Firstly, the desire to experiment with creative lighting during the shoot. Then, a self-imposed constraint which governed the editing process: the exclusive use of simple, hard cuts throughout.
