SYNOPSIS
Drawing from the observations, experiences and thoughts gathered throughout her life,
the prophetess, in a surge of hope and altruism, shares her conception of a world which
should have been, could, or will be: a manifesto, for a fictitious or latent generation. The text
is freely inspired by a Francis Ponge poem, The Law and the Prophets (1930), reinterpreted
and rewritten to better anchor it to the contemporary context as well as to my own ideals.
STATEMENT
The Prophetess is the translation into the video form — as well as a reinterpretation — of an existing poem, the reading of which had triggered a particularly rich imagery. The project embraces an approach where all the components or building blocks are given equal importance; it mixes moving images, still images, found footage, soliloquy, voice-over, foley and music. It explores minimalistic, meaningful, original ways to combine all these elements, in order to create a personal audiovisual language, where poetry becomes expressed not solely in the spoken words, but in the global result.
