SYNOPSIS + STATEMENT

Today Is the Yesterday You'll Regret Tomorrow came together through the coalescence of four distinct conceptual threads. Firstly, at the sonic level, came the desire to create a musical exquisite corpse. I asked three musicians to compose and record individual solo tracks, within certain given parameters, each unaware of what the others were doing, and then superimposed the three pieces, obtaining qualities of randomness and indeterminacy. Secondly, I created images of an elderly woman engaged in a virtual reality game, showing, with a sense of detachment, the oddity of a moving human body responding to externally invisible technological stimuli. Thirdly, I transformed the corrupted, glitchy rendition of the failed ripping of a copy-protected DVD into a series of cine-paintings. And fourthly, I interspersed voiced-over philosophical reflections. The resulting audiovisual work becomes a question on the true nature of reality, addressing human corporeality, senescence, technology, the physical world, mental constructs, and Berkeleyan idealism.

Today Is the Yesterday You'll Regret Tomorrow exists both as a standalone piece, and as one of twelve vignettes composing What Makes Us Human.
